October 19, 2007

October will be a busy month at TBS. October 26 to 28 is the weekend for “Creating a Culture of Shalom: A Training in Non-Violence” here at TBS. Space is limited; if you intend to sign up, you should do so soon. And don’t forget Mitzvah Day this Sunday, October 21.

Another important date to remember is October 27. Please join us at Christ Lutheran Church for “Lutherfest”, their main fundraising event. After all they do for us each year at Yom Kippur, it would be nice to return a bit of the favor.

What are the possibilities and limits of forgiveness? Read The Sunflower by Simon Wiesenthal and join your entire community in discussing this fascinating topic. Our Adult Education Committee has planned a series of events based on this book. Copies are available at Garcia Street Books or in the Temple office for $12. Please note that some of the dates of our “forgiveness” events have changed since the combined adult education/social action flyer was distributed. Watch your email or call the office for up-to-date details.

If you have not already done so, please pick up a copy of the new Temple Calendar from the table in the lobby. Thanks to Janet Schwab, Frank Wechsler, Sue Breslauer and Will Karp for all their hard work. The calendar looks great. Additional copies may be purchased for $12 each.

Another thing you can find in the lobby is a brick order form. Our new brick campaign has begun and we encourage you to add to the bricks you have or buy one or more for the first time. Joan Shandler will be happy to answer any questions.

Richard & Mary Rosenstock will be visiting Cuba at the beginning of November. As in the past, they hope to bring needed supplies with them for the benefit of the Jewish community there. The items will be distributed in Havana, Santa Clara, Carbarien, and probably Camaguey. They request donations of insect repellent (particularly important), vitamins and supplements, over-the-counter drugs (aspirin, etc.), non-prescription reading glasses, old prescription glasses and other medical supplies. Please bring your contributions to the Temple by November 2.

TBS is going to collect kids coats for ¡ADELANTE! Coat Drive. We need children's winter jackets, in all sizes, but especially sizes 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12. We urge you to clean out your closets and/or buy winter jackets to donate at one of the many sales happening now. Please make sure that any used coats you donate are clean, unstained and without holes. Collection boxes can be found in the Sanctuary Lobby clearly marked ¡Adelante!Octobv
