TBS Foundation

When a man departs from this world, neither silver nor gold nor jewels accompany him -- only Torah, and his good deeds.
Pirkei Avot, 6:9

* * *
The Temple Beth Shalom Foundation is building its endowment to promote the spirit of continuity l’dor v’dor – from generation to generation – sustaining Jewish religion, history, the Hebrew language, education, culture and social action. Donors of large gifts and bequests can support the broad goals of the Foundation or designate the way they want their gifts to be used as follows:

To perpetuate Jewish religious practice and tradition by
Conserving our Torahs;
Replacing and updating prayer books;
Sponsoring music programs.

To foster Jewish education at all levels, through the teaching of history,
culture, religion and Hebrew by supporting

Our religious school;
Adult education, scholars in residence, speakers;
Student travel to and study in Israel.

To promote social action/justice by
Caring for the homeless and helping to get them on their feet again;
Advocating for food for the hungry and health care for the sick, especially children;
Treating all people equitably, including minorities, the disadvantaged, GLBT, and persons with disabilities.

The Foundation wants your gift and generosity to yield the greatest possible benefits. We will be happy to discuss with you and/or your financial consultants not only direct contributions, but charitable remainder or lead trusts, insurance trusts, gifts of appreciated securities or properties, annuities, and testamentary gifts.

The Temple Beth Shalom Foundation exists to provide stable and permanent support of the vital religious, cultural, educational, and social action programs offered by Temple Beth Shalom to the Jewish community in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico and to the community at large. This objective can only be met by soliciting gifts for a permanent endowment and by investing and administering those gifts in an ethical manner. Gifts of any size are welcome.

Easy ways to make a planned gift to TBS Foundation

Here are four simple ways to support this work:
1. Name the TBS Foundation as the “Payable on Death” (POD) beneficiary of any account, including your IRA. This takes the account out of your estate.
2. Life insurance – give an old or new policy with the TBS Foundation as the beneficiary and owner. Make an annual, tax-deductible donation to cover the premium. It’s an inexpensive way to make a large gift.
3. Leave a set amount in your will – this costs nothing during your lifetime.
4. Donate your house, but continue to live in it! This is called a retained life estate. It removes a taxable asset from your estate. The house comes to the TBS Foundation when you die.

Remembering the TBS Foundation in Your Will

Leaving a gift for the TBS Foundation in your will is as easy as this sentence:
"I give to the Temple Beth Shalom Foundation, a nonprofit charitable and religious corporation located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, ____________(insert here: a dollar amount; percentage [%] of estate, or a description of the property you intend to bequeath) for its general purposes."

You can also add a codicil to a completed will to include the TBS Foundation (this requires a notary to certify the signatures of two witnesses - contact your attorney for details). For more information, contact Foundation President Dan Yohalem at 983-9433, Ralph Scheuer at 982-9911 or Aaron Wolf at 988-4476.

Your participation will help to secure our future for our children and their children.
