Something to get you started:
Volunteer at the Shower Program at First Presbyterian Church
Your help is greatly needed! First Presbyterian Church invites you to join in the Hot Water Hospitality Ministry- a community effort to bring hot, clean showers and clean clothing to our homeless brothers and sisters in Santa Fe during these hot months!
The program begins Sunday, May 2 at First, and will continue every Sunday until Oct. 31. Volunteers are needed from 12:15 to 3:30 p.m. to help provide a welcoming, clean, and safe space for folks to take a rest and shower. Please contact Rev. Brooke Pickrell at bpickrell@fpcsantafe.org or 982-8544, x13 to volunteer.
All ages are welcome to volunteer. Youth under the age of eighteen years old should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
In addition, travel-size toiletry items are also needed on a regular basis. Helpful items include: shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, razors, shaving cream, and combs. Sandwich-sized bags, paper or plastic grocery bags, and washcloths are also helpful donations. You can drop these items at First Presbyterian, located at 208 Grant Ave., Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please do not donate items larger than travel-size.
Please spread the word, and come join the team!
The Community Closet needs to gather seasonal items for our homeless clients as we make our move downtown to the First Presbyterian Hot Showers Hospitality Program for the summer. We appreciate your help in donating or funding the purchase of as many of these items as possible.
Donate only CLEAN items, in GOOD CONDITION . We appreciate it, and the dignity and safety of our clients depends on the quality of your donations. Gently worn is AOK! Consider the varying weather patterns in our city and donate accordingly. We need:
-Mostly Men's (some women's) jeans, pants and shorts sizes 30-36....
-Mostly Men's new underwear (briefs or boxers) & white crew socks.
-Mostly Men's work shoes, walking shoes, sneakers and sturdy sandals.
-Adult's jackets, wind breakers, shells and rainjackets.
-Men's and women's sweatshirts and pants.
-Short sleeved collared shirts (no t-shirts-we have tons of those).
-Brimmed hats.
-Sleeping bags, tents, backpacks and towels are also needed.
-Sunscreen, lip balm and toiletries in small sample size containers.
-Any fine garments or items of consignment quality will be consigned to raise money to purchase underwear and any other items that are needed.
Items can be brought to the Taha Mosque on 302 E. Barcelona and left in front of the garage. Please call Julie Bennett, Coordinator, Community Closet with any questions: Julie Bennett, 505.753.6428,505.690.4409
