TBS B'NEI MITZVAH:
Meeting our young adults where they are

You don't have a Bar/Bat/B'nei Mitzvah - You become one

We offer an inclusive B'nei Mitzvah program that serves to create bespoke ceremonies that honor the joy and uniqueness of every child as they take their place as a young adult in our community. Every young person automatically becomes Bar, Bat, or B'nei Mitzvah upon reaching the age of 13, but many choose to ritualize the occasion by reading from the Torah, teaching our community, and leading us in prayer.

Our students work with Cantor Lianna to learn how to chant Torah from the Torah scroll in Hebrew, and how to lead some of the prayers of the service. She always encourages students to bring in their musical and creative pursuits. Students engage in deep study of Jewish texts with Rabbi Neil in order to prepare a drash, a speech sharing their thoughts on their Torah portion. They also do a Mitzvah Project which empowers them to give back to the wider community.

Our program emphasizes the connections that our students build in their process of becoming young adults. They study together with their peers, deepen relationships with clergy and educators, and learn how to take a role of responsibility and leadership at TBS.

Prior to B'nei Mitzvah, students MUST be enrolled in the TBS Religious School and Hebrew School.
