THE SPIRIT OF BELONGING

As we welcome the new year 5786, we reflect on what Temple Beth Shalom means to us – it is our spiritual home, a place of learning and connection, a source of comfort and joy. TBS is a special place: to many, it is our family of choice, a foundation of friendships, the center of Jewish life in Santa Fe.
We invite you to view a short (less than three minutes) video so you can hear what some of your fellow members have to say about the special place TBS holds in their hearts.

Traditionally, this is the time of year we ask for your financial assistance. Our High Holy Days appeal,
which begins now and ends with Sukkot on October 13, is our main fundraiser. Intended to be
accessible to all congregants, it is a core opportunity to support Temple Beth Shalom.

Our goal for this year’s High Holy Days appeal is $100,000. Two generous members of our
congregation, who prefer to remain anonymous, have pledged to match all donations above what each
congregant gave during last year’s High Holy Days appeal, up to a maximum of $20,000.

As examples:
• If you gave nothing last year and donate $360 this year, your donation will be matched dollar for
dollar and will increase to $720.
• If you donated $360 last year and donate $720 this year, the amount of the increase -- $360 – will
be matched dollar for dollar, and your donation will be worth $1,080.

From the beginning of our history as a Jewish people, we have recognized that building a holy
community requires the participation of every individual, regardless of means. Whether through the
mandatory half-shekel given by each person to support the sanctuary and communal needs… the
burnt offerings and first fruits brought to the Temple in gratitude… or the gifts of the heart that built
the ancient Tabernacle, every contribution mattered.

It still does.

Dues, which we held steady this year, cover only half of our operating budget. With your
generosity and this philanthropic match, we will exceed our goal. TBS relies on the generosity of all
our members to sustain a spiritual home where everyone is welcome, supported, and inspired.

Everything we treasure about this community, from extended family to meaningful Shabbat, holiday,
and life cycle events, youth programs, learning opportunities, fascinating speakers and events, and
social justice activities, is made possible by your gift. As we enter the new year, we ask you to give as
generously as you are able.

We can't thank you enough for your support.

Shanah tovah u'metukah -- may 5786 be a good, sweet, healthy, and peaceful new year for each of us and the entire world.
